The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) is accepting applications for the spring grant cycle. Local nonprofits can apply for six grant opportunities, each with its own criteria. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2025.
Building a Stronger Fayette Fund: supporting projects/programming or nonprofit capacity building. These awards are made with the combined funding from the Building a Stronger Fayette Fund; Fayette County Charities Endowment; Franklin K. and Jean Smith Family Fund; GIVE Fayette County campaign, Levi Komarinski Memorial Fund; Thompson Fund.
Burchinal Family Endowment Fund: supports charities that provide health and medical care for Fayette County residents.
Catalyst for Change Grant: CFFC is looking for a big idea that can affect change and growth in Fayette County. There will be three steps for the selection process: letter of inquiry; full application; presentation to the CFFC board of directors. The project should be a true collaboration between two or more nonprofits, showing a collective effort to address county needs. The project should incorporate county-wide impact, both in the number of people impacted by the project and the geographic reach of the project’s impact. Projects will be viewed favorably if they spark economic growth and anticipate sustainability.
Community Beautification Fund: supports landscape improvements (including but not limited to planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers) for community beautification projects.
Mary and John J. Depcrymski Memorial Fund: supports organizations that provide transportation for Fayette County senior citizens.
Jack and Diane Hughes Family Fund: supports projects and programs in the areas of community gardens and/or science/environmental education.

“In 2024, the foundation awarded $22,734 in the spring grant cycle, supporting ten local nonprofits. Those awards were made possible through generous donations to the Building a Stronger Fayette Fund, and through four field of interest funds with specific areas of focus,” said Renee M. Couser, CFFC Executive Director.
Crosskeys Human Services was awarded $3,131 last year to support their meal deliveries to about 200 elderly community members. Their service area of Brownsville and Republic is very rural and widespread, traversing rough roads and unpaved driveways. “Two of our vehicles had to have major work due to the rocky roads that are traveled in the delivery of the meals,” said Sr. James Ann Germuska, Executive Director.

Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA was also awarded funding last spring. “It becomes problematic when we are trying to enter reporting information or complete time-sensitive tasks, and our outdated computers are running so slow that staff struggle to access the programs they need,” said Megan Hegedus, CEO. Their $2,500 capacity building grant enabled them to update the office computers at their Fayette County Safe House.
CFFC is including the Catalyst for Change Grant letter of inquiry in this year’s spring grant cycle. Money raised from the foundation’s Gala of Giving event has funded two $50,000 Catalyst for Change Grants so far. This year, applicants can request up to $75,000 for a collaborative, county-wide project.

“This past fall, we awarded a Catalyst for Change Grant to support new moms at WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital with car seats and training. In 2023, the first Catalyst for Change Grant was awarded to Main Street Theatre Company’s musical showcase for Fayette County high schools. We’re excited to see more creative, impactful projects for this year’s round of requests,” said Couser.

The Community Foundation of Fayette County’s 5th annual Fayette Gives “day of giving” will take place on Thursday, November 7th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at www.fayettegives.org!
By hosting Fayette Gives, the Community Foundation of Fayette County aims to build a stronger Fayette County by supporting local charities and engaging the community in philanthropy. In the first four years of Fayette Gives, the community has raised over $2 million to support local charities. This year, there are 96 local charities participating in Fayette Gives to raise money for the good work that they do across Fayette County. All money raised will be used to benefit Fayette County.
As a special incentive, over $50,000 in cash prizes are available for charities to win throughout Fayette Gives day. Thanks to the Fayette Gives sponsors, this extra pot of money will boost the fundraising for charities and engage donors for different prizes each hour. Online donations will be available on Thursday, November 7th from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at www.fayettegives.org. Donors will add charities to their “Gift Basket”, select donation amounts ($25 minimum), and complete their payment. Once submitted, donation receipts will be sent by email.
Throughout Fayette Gives on November 7th, the website will display live results and leaderboards. A new addition this year is the “Donor Wall”, which will display recent donations (if the donor chooses to share their name and donation amount). The charity prize winners will also be displayed on the website throughout November 7th.
“Fayette Gives has been a great way for the foundation to facilitate charitable giving. You can donate to multiple charities, all in one place – all in one day. It’s an impactful day for the county and for the wonderful charities that work so hard to help others,” said Angela Braun, DC, CFFC Board Chair.
The Community Foundation of Fayette County has been accepting “offline donations” since early October. These donation methods include check, donor advised fund gifts, charitable IRA distributions, and stock transfers. Offline donations require a Check Contribution Form to designate their selected charities and donation amounts, and offline donations must be received at the foundation office by 8 p.m. on November 7th to be included for Fayette Gives. Over $50,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to charities throughout Fayette Gives on November 7, 2024 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. During this 12-hour fundraising marathon, the public is encouraged to donate to a selection of 96 participating charities. As an extra incentive, cash prizes will be awarded hourly during the “day of giving”.
This is the fifth year that the Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) is hosting Fayette Gives. The event supports Fayette County charities and highlights the power of philanthropy. Prizes are a new feature for Fayette Gives 2024, taking the place of the previous years’ bonus pool.
“Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on November 7th, one or more prizes will be awarded hourly. Each prize has its own criteria, so there is a variety of opportunities for charities to win prize money throughout the day,” said Renee M. Couser, CFFC Executive Director.
Prizes are listed at www.fayettegives.org. Some prizes will be awarded to charities that raise the most money or have the most donors within a specific hour, and other prizes will be awarded to a randomly selected charity that receives a donation within a specific hour. Prize winners will be listed on the Fayette Gives website each hour, and some prizes will have three winners – one in each size category of small, medium, and large.

The Community Foundation of Fayette County’s (CFFC) 25 years of philanthropy would not be possible without the generosity and support of donors. Thanks to many individuals and businesses over the years, CFFC stewards nearly 200 charitable funds and has grown to over $24 million in assets. Each year, a percentage of these charitable assets is used to support nonprofits and local students, in an effort to build a stronger Fayette County.
Throughout the past 25 years, CFFC has granted over $15 million to the community.
This spring, over $22,000 in grants were awarded to nine local nonprofits. Grants supported a pregnancy medical center, a garden that will be used for educational sessions and a culinary program, transportation for meal deliveries to senior citizens, and plants for a park. The Building a Stronger Fayette Fund awarded “capacity building” grants to strengthen nonprofits’ sustainability and their efficiency in serving the community. This included funding for equipment, board training, and technology updates.

The third annual Gala of Giving ~ Catalyst for Change black-tie event was held on April 13, with over 300 guests attending at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. Proceeds will provide funding for projects that spark change and growth in Fayette County.
The first $50,000 Catalyst for Change Grant was awarded to Main Street Theatre Company, State Theatre Center for the Arts, and Fayette County Cultural Trust last fall. Their program “Encore! A Showcase of Local Talent” on May 9 was the first of its kind in Fayette County.
CFFC has created a Strategic Plan for 2024-2027 with goals and actions for our growth!
The foundation is awarding over $200,000 in post-secondary scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year. Thanks to scholarship fund donors, we are able to support local students. This, in turn, supports the future of Fayette County and helps to strengthen our local workforce.

That’s what Fayette Gives is all about!
Fayette Gives is a 12-hour fundraising marathon, hosted by the Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC), that is all about the phrase “give where you live.” This year’s giving day will take place on November 7, 2024 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at www.fayettegives.org. CFFC encourages all interested charities to attend the “Getting Ready” webinar on June 12 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
This live webinar will be an online-only training presented by GiveGab, the company that manages the platform for Fayette Gives. Fayette Gives 2024 will have a new look, due to a switch in platform and new features for charity tracking and donor engagement. The foundation believes it is crucial for charities to attend the June 12 training to learn about new features and prepare for a successful Fayette Gives campaign.

Each charity that registers for the “Getting Ready” webinar and (virtually) attends will be awarded a $50 prize to add to their Fayette Gives fundraising. There is a limit of one prize per charity, and prizes will only apply to charities who are approved to participate in Fayette Gives at the registration cut-off date of August 30, 2024.
