2017 College Scholarship Applications Now Available

The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) is accepting grant applications for the Foundation’s upcoming grant cycle.

Eligible organizations must be non-profit (recognized under Section 501 (c)(3) or equivalent, of the I.R.S. Code), tax-exempt, and located in Fayette County, PA. The Foundation also considers the grant requests of organizations from other areas whose purposes and programs benefit Fayette County.

The Community of Foundation of Fayette County’s General Grant-Making Fund gives priority to programs in the following areas: Arts and Culture, Education, Community Development, and Health and Human Services.

Requests of up to $5,000 will be accepted. If the organization receives a grant, a grant report is required within six (6) months of receiving the award.

Jacquelyn Core – Uniontown Area YMCA

Since becoming the CEO of the Uniontown Area YMCA in April I have been amazed over and over again by stories of the impact that our Y has on the community and on individual community members on a daily basis. I am blessed to frequently hear the stories of members whose lives have been changed for the positive. Whether it is someone who became free of evidence of diabetes through implementation of dietary and exercise changes, someone who recently suffered a cardiac event and is now returning to an active lifestyle, or a mom who found a family support network while her husband and the father of her two small children was deployed with the military, people are always stopping by my office to share with me how the YMCA has impacted their lives.

We are training adults, providing workplace education and securing the health and wellness of Fayette County’s workforce through fitness and nutrition initiatives. We are addressing food security needs, particularly of school-age children through after school programming that includes healthy snacks and meals. We are increasing water safety by training both swimmers and lifeguards. We are providing education for school-age children, from dietary education to engineering design principles. We’re also providing nearly $100,000 worth of scholarship support annually so that low income individuals can participate in a YMCA membership and programming. No membership is free, as we foster pride in our members, working with them to determine what they can afford to pay.

This summer our staff decided they wanted to contribute to the sustainability of our movement, and we chose the Fayette philanthropy competition as our project. It has been my privilege to lead a team of staff members in raising funds that will help us ensure we are able to deliver community programming for years to come. We hope you will be a part of our movement as well!

Chevron Community Fund Grant Applications Now Being Accepted

The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) is accepting grant applications for the Chevron Community Fund. The deadline is October 15, 2016.

The Chevron Community Fund is based at the Community Foundation of Fayette County. Grant requests from Fayette and Greene County non-profits only will be considered in this cycle, and requests for projects of up to $10,000 will be accepted. Funding is focused on, but is not limited to, the following areas: STEM Education, Workforce Development, and Basic Human Needs.

2016 Fayette Philanthropy Dinner Sponsorships Available

Guests I The 2016 Fayette Philanthropy Project is now underway with five individuals competing to raise the most money for one of CFFC’s current funds or to create a new fund. The winner of this year’s competition will be announced at the Fayette Philanthropy Dinner on Thursday, October 6 at the Historic Summit Inn, Farmington, PA.

The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation will be honored as the 2016 Philanthropist of the Year. The Benedum Foundation was founded in 1944, and has awarded over $410 million in Southwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Benedum Foundation was one of the first donors to the CFFC and continues to partner with us on a variety of programs.

Last year, 200 people attended the event! Uniontown resident Jim John, who raised $12,000 for a charitable fund he created in memory of his late brother, was named winner of the Community Foundation of Fayette County’s first Fayette Philanthropy Project.

Community Foundation of Fayette County Announces 2016 Scholarship Awards

Joshua Swimmer, Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) Board of Directors’ Chairperson, has announced the Foundation’s 2016 Scholarship Awards at the Foundation’s recent Scholarship Event held at Duck Hollow in Uniontown on May 26.

Swimmer remarked, “These scholarship funds were created by individuals or families for different purposes – some in honor or memory of a loved one and others to give back to the community. All were created with the intent to provide quality post-secondary educational opportunities to Fayette County students. Approximately $160,000 will be awarded this year, with individual award amounts ranging from $500 to $7000. Qualifying students are also eligible for a potential match through our partnership with the Pennsylvania Access to Higher Education Program. Important to note is that in 2011, we awarded only $60,000 in scholarships, and today, five years later, we are awarding $100,000 more.”
