UNIONTOWN (May 14, 2010) ------The Community Foundation of Fayette County (CFFC) and Atlas Energy, Inc. today announced a partnership for a new grant-making program that will benefit non-profit organizations in Atlas Energy’s core operating area in southwest Pennsylvania.  Atlas will make an initial $50,000 donation to create the Atlas Energy Fund (“the Fund”), which will be held at the Community Foundation.  Atlas is also donating $5,000 to the Foundation for general grant-making purposes.  It is expected that the Fund will disburse the $50,000 during the remainder of the year, and that Atlas will replenish the Fund with significant contributions in later years.

Atlas Energy created the Fund to direct philanthropic resources to the needs of the communities where the company operates.  Although it will be based at the Community Foundation of Fayette County, the Fund will have a regional focus, and requests will be considered within the company’s service area of Fayette, Westmoreland, Washington, and Greene Counties.

“The Atlas Energy Fund will focus on improving the quality of life for southwestern Pennsylvanians by supporting non-profit organizations that have a positive influence in the region,” said Rich Weber, President of Atlas Energy, Inc.  “Our goal is to contribute to programs that support workforce development, education, environmental preservation, social services, and recreation. We are proud to make a positive impact in the communities where we live and work.”

Atlas Energy, which is headquartered in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, has been operating in the region for decades. The company is a leading producer of natural gas, particularly in the Marcellus Shale, and one of the region’s largest employers.

“Atlas has already made a significant economic impact in this region” said Scott Whyel, Chairman of the CFFC.  “We are pleased to have this opportunity to assist Atlas with their grant- making program, which will provide additional benefits to many of the area’s valuable community organizations.”

The Atlas Energy Fund will feature two grant cycles annually, and award decisions will be made by the Atlas Energy Grants Committee.  Application guidelines and deadlines will be announced with additional information on both the Atlas Energy and Community Foundation websites.

Atlas Energy, Inc. is one of the largest independent natural gas producers in the Appalachian and Michigan Basins and a leading producer in the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania.  Atlas is also the country’s largest sponsor and manager of tax-advantaged energy investment partnerships.  Atlas currently operates in the Marcellus Shale in a joint venture with Reliance Industries, Ltd. of India, through which it has a 60% undivided interest.  Atlas also owns 1.1 million common units in APL and a 64% interest in AHD.  For more information, please visit Atlas’ website at www.atlasenergy.com, or contact Investor Relations at InvestorRelations@atlasenergy.com.
