Scholarships

 

The Community Foundation of Fayette County offers a variety of scholarships with various criteria.

Listed below are the scholarships available.  To apply, click on the links below for further instructions.  It is highly recommended that you “Preview” the on-line application(s), before you click “Apply”.

Scholarships Available

Betty Bayne Barnes Scholarship Fund for Women

  • Candidate must be a female resident of Fayette County, holding a GPA of 3.0 or higher, either planning to attend or attending a college or university.

Maurice M. Bortz & Bessie D. Rinehart Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must attend Uniontown Area Senior High School or Laurel Highlands Senior High School.
  • Candidate must have participated in little league baseball, basketball at the varsity level, intra-mural level, or church league level, and must have a strong desire to further their education.

The Legacy Scholarship Fund of Ernst Gottlieb Braun

  • Candidate must be a resident of Fayette County.
  • This scholarship is available to enable students to study in any country within the European Union.
  • Students must have completed 36 credit hours; maintain a 3.0 GPA (in a 4.0 system) and be majoring in foreign language study, arts and crafts, architecture or history.  Ernst Braun Bio.

Dr. Dennis F. Brestensky Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident attending or planning to attend Penn State University, Fayette – the Eberly Campus.
  • Candidate must have a 3.3 GPA or higher and demonstrate financial need.
  • Preference will be made to students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree.

Jim and Barb Browne Family Fund

  • Candidate must be a high school senior and resident of the Uniontown Area School District, holding a GPA of 2.5 or higher, showing academic promise and financial need.
  • This is a 4 year renewable scholarship.
  • At the end of each year of college, students must submit to the Community Foundation a final college transcript in order to be eligible for the scholarship renewal for the subsequent year of school.

Michael S. Carbonara Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must attend Laurel Highlands Senior High School, must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and participate on the high school golf team for at least two years.

Career and Technical Education Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident attending the Connellsville Area Career and Technology Center or the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute.  See your Guidance Counselor for more information.

CFFC Board of Directors Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, successfully completed college freshman year with a GPA of 2.5 (in a cumulative 4.0 scale), and must show financial need.
  • Awards are limited to undergraduate students only.

Connellsville Rotary Club

  • Candidate must reside in the Connellsville Area High School District.
  • Candidate must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and proven financial need.

Allen Craft Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a graduating senior at Laurel Highlands High School, show academic achievement, athletic ability and an interest in community service.

Cupelli Family Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident attending or planning to attend the University of Pittsburgh or West Virginia University as a full-time, degree seeking student.
  • Candidate must hold a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale or maintain at least a 3.0 GPA while making progress toward a degree at the University of Pittsburgh or at West Virginia University.

Lulu A. Dudley Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, show academic promise and financial need.

Robert E. and Elouise R. Eberly Scholarship Endowment

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, majoring in nursing.

Fayette County Community Service All Star Scholarship

  • Candidates must attend a Fayette County school and must have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community service.  More Information.

Fayette Young Professionals Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County, PA resident, attending a high school in Fayette County.  This high school senior must be planning to attend a post-secondary school.

Fay-Penn Workforce Development Scholarship

  • GED Applicants – Please contact your testing center for Vouchers and Reimbursement Application.
  • Continuing Education/Post-Secondary – Please contact your school’s Financial Aid Office for Application.

Nancy Flanegan McManus Nursing Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a female senior attending Uniontown High School with a minimum GPA of 3.25 and show financial need.
  • Student must be planning to attend an accredited four year Bachelor of Science Nursing program.

George M. and Anna Hochheimer Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, show academic promise and financial need.

Sergeant Eric Hull Advised and Memorial Scholarship Funds

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, attending or planning to attend college.  Preference will be given to Culinary Arts students, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.

Hughes Family Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Laurel Highlands High School senior that has participated in high school swimming or soccer.

Johnson Matthey Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a high school senior at Albert Gallatin High School and accepted to a post-secondary education program in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM).
  • Applicant must also have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and have financial need (although need is not necessary to receive this award).

Alfred E. Jones & Anna B. Jones Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a high school graduate from Fayette County planning to continue their education with post-secondary school study. Although preference will be given to those who have chosen to study nursing or art, areas that were of special interest to Anna B. and Alfred Jones, respectively, applications from students who seek to pursue courses of study in other fields are certainly welcomed.

Melvin J. and Beatrice Vance Keller Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidates must be a Connellsville Area High School Senior, a Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior High School Senior, or a student that has received this award in previous years.
  • Students must be pursuing a career in education.
  • Awards are based on academic achievement, holding a 3.0 GPA (based on a 4.0 GPA scale), and financial need.

Laurel Business Institute Scholarship Fund in Memory of Ruth & Milton Decker This scholarship is for current LBI Students only.

Laurel Highlands Music Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a senior attending Laurel Highlands Senior High School.
  • Candidate must be planning to attend college to further music/arts education.

Laurel Highlands Mustang Academic Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a senior attending Laurel Highlands Senior High School with a minimum 3.5 GPA.
  • Candidate must participate in extracurricular activities.

Lillian’s Legacy

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident planning to attend a 2 or 4 year post-secondary school.

Raymond Malone Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident attending or planning to attend Penn State University and majoring in Agricultural Sciences.
  • Candidate must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Deana Martorella Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a female athlete, attending Charleroi High School, with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Dr. Denise M. Martin Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a female resident or an employee of the Albert Gallatin Area School District pursuing a second degree or an advanced degree in the field of education or related fields such as physical therapy, speech therapy or nursing.

Debra A. Mascia Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Brownsville Area High School senior, Fayette County resident, holding a 3.2 GPA or higher.
  • Preference will be given to a student who plans to major in any of the following: vocal performance, music education or musical theatre, or (in the event that there is no applying students majoring in these areas) a foreign language major.

Carl S. Micarelli Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County student attending or planning to attend the following schools including, but not limited to, California University of PA, Carnegie Mellon University, Duquesne University, Indiana University of PA, University of Pittsburgh or West Virginia University.
  • Student must be majoring in music, music education or jazz studies with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Frank L. Muzika Catholic War Veterans Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Uniontown Area High School senior and be a relative of a Catholic War Veteran.

My Mother’s Legacy

  • Candidate must be pursuing a career in healthcare or the healing arts.

Zackery R. Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident, holding a 3.0 GPA or higher, and planning to attend or attending any college, university or technical school.  Adults wishing to continue their education are also eligible to apply.

Henry J. Oppermann Scholarship Fund

  • Candidate must be a Connellsville Area School District or a Geibel Catholic Junior-Senior High School senior.  Applicant must show academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, and financial need.
  • Candidate must have participated in any varsity sport and must plan to participate in collegiate sports.

Rita P. Peters Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County resident enrolled full-time at Penn State Fayette who has completed at least 30 credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale.

Robert and Marjorie Rager Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Connellsville High School senior showing academic excellence and proven financial need.

Helen Hulvey Scheggia Nursing Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a high school senior or graduate of a Fayette County high school pursuing a career in nursing.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA.

Virginia Springer Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Laurel Highlands High School graduating senior or graduate, holding a 3.5 or higher GPA (if high school senior) or 3.0 or higher (if enrolled in college).
  • Majoring in a healthcare field including nursing or medicine.
  • Show academic achievement.
  • Have financial need (although need is not necessary to receive this award). Scholarship may be renewable; recipients may apply annually for consideration.

Wolford Swimmer Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Fayette County student either attending or planning to attend college.
  • Candidate must hold a 3.0 GPA (based on a 4.0 GPA scale) and show financial need.

Dr. William C. Thomas, Jr. Perseverance Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Uniontown Area High School Senior holding a GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale. Or, the student has received this award in previous years.
  • If applicant has received this award previously, they must continually meet the criteria of being a full time college student, be in good standing, and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Participate in at least 4 hours of community service per month.

Uniontown Hospital Employee Learning Program (UHELP)

  • Candidate must be an employee of Uniontown Hospital or Fayette Regional Health System for a minimum of two consecutive years and have no disciplines within the previous 12 month period.
  • Must be registered or will be registering to attend an accredited RN Program.

Darrell L. and Norma R. Uphold Family Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Uniontown Area High School senior that has attended UAHS their entire junior and senior years.  Candidate must also plan to be a FULL TIME student attending one of the following schools:  California University of PA, Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh, Westminster College or West Virginia University.

Mary Jane Dailey Wood Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a high school senior from one of the following schools:  Laurel Highlands High School, Uniontown, PA;  Nelson County High School, Lovingston, VA; Regina Catholic High School, Warren, MI; Uniontown Area High School, Uniontown, PA; or University High School, Morgantown, WV
  • Student must have between a 2.5 and 3.0 GPA, participate in sports and show financial need.

Edward T. Yezioro Memorial Scholarship

  • Candidate must be a Uniontown Area High School senior planning to major in education or secondary education.

Other Scholarship Opportunities for Fayette County Residents:  Fayette County, PA residents may also be eligible to receive Eberly Family Scholarships.  These scholarships are NOT available through the Community Foundation of Fayette County.
