Guidelines for Eligible Organizations
Your Community Foundation recognizes that Fayette County has special needs for future growth and development of its people and communities. Our community’s needs and the limited funds that the Foundation has to address them, dictate that our major grantmaking place a special emphasis on supporting those initiatives and projects that promote systemic change to improve the long-term structural, social, and economic challenges facing our County. The Foundation makes grants to projects and eligible organizations in these areas of interest:
- Education
- Arts and Culture
- Parks and Recreation
- Environmental Awareness, Conservation, and Improvement
- Historic Preservation
- Community and Neighborhood Revitalization
- Health and Human Services
- Capital Improvements
- Technical Assistance
- Scholarships
The Foundation encourages the following in grantmaking: projects that have measurable, visible impact; projects that improve the community’s image and self image; projects that improve the community’s public relations effectiveness; and projects that build strong community partnerships and promote collaborative efforts.
Generally, eligible organizations must be non-profit (recognized under Section 501[c][3] of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code), tax-exempt organizations in Fayette County, PA. The Foundation may make grants to organizations outside of Fayette County, PA whose purposes and programs benefit Fayette County.
Types of Grants, Application and Time Frame Presently, the Foundation makes grants in two categories:
Project Support: Grant awards of up to $5,000 are made to innovative projects and programs that meet the Foundation's general criteria for improving Fayette County. Qualified applicants are invited to send only one copy of a brief letter (2-3 pages) containing the following:
- description of the applicant organization;
- description of the proposed project and estimated cost;
- partners in carrying out the project (including other funding);
- project lead contact information-name, affiliation, title, address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address.
- organization’s IRS determination letter confirming 501[c][3] status.

Systemic Change: Special grant awards up to $25,000 may be made to organizations, programs and projects that promote systemic change to improve the long-range structural, social, and economic challenges facing Fayette County.
Interested organizations are invited to send a letter (2-3 pages) describing the applicant organization, proposed project, and how the proposed project meets the Community Foundation's criteria for grantmaking and promoting systemic change. Based on information provided in the letter, selected organizations may be requested additional information that could assist in making a decision.
