The Melvin J. Keller Memorial Scholarship was established in the spring of 2008 as a tribute to a man who lived his life in service to others. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who was passionate about his family, church and community. Mr. Keller worked for the Prudential Insurance Company for almost 30 years, was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church of Connellsville, and worked to better the city of Connellsville. He was very proud of his membership in the Rotary Club, where he had a perfect attendance record of 63 years. Mr. Keller's dedication to the improvement of education led him to serve as a member of the school board of the Connellsville School District for seventeen years. For that reason, his family chose to create this scholarship to aid graduating seniors going into the field of education from Connellsville Area High School. His family hopes that this scholarship will help those students achieve their dream of a college education.
In 2008, the CFFC was approved by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) to distribute state arts funds through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts Program (PPA) in Fayette, Greene, and Washington Counties.
The CFFC joins 16 other organizations from around the state in administering these funds. The PPA program is a regranting program which allows state money to be distributed on a local level to artists and organizations planning public art projects. In 2007, PPA partners made more than 780 arts grants statewide totaling over $1.8 million in state funding.
There are two streams of funding -- Program Steam (a funding opportunity providing general operating support to arts organizations -- groups must be invited to apply) and Project Stream -- providing grants of up to $3000 to eligible organizations or to individuals conducting public arts projects.
The deadline for 2010 Project Stream proposals is June 18, 2010. Project activity period is September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011, and all funded activities must take place during this time period. Only one application may be submitted per period.
First and second time Project Stream applicants are not required to match the requested amount; third time and thereafter applicants must show a 1:1 match of funds requested.
The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts is a state agency in the Office of the Governor. Created in 1966, the Council's mission is to foster the excellence, diversity, and vitality of the arts in Pennsylvania, and to broaden the availability and appreciation of the arts throughout the Commonwealth.
