Westmoreland Fayette County Boy Scouts of America

W.D. Boyce brought Scouting to America from England in 1910.  The program came to our two counties a year later in 1911.  The year 1937 saw the two counties merge into one local Council which today is a non-profit corporate operating with volunteer officers and a volunteer board of directors.  The Council employs 11 professional staff and 5 office staff and serves about 10,000 youth through the Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Learning for Life programs.

Westmoreland Fayette County Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th Anniversary in 2010 and continues to provide a quality character education program for the youth of America.  The Westmoreland Fayette Council has benefited over the years with its partnership with the Community Foundation of Fayette County. The CFFC holds a significant portion of the Endowment fund for the council, which is invested responsibly to generate additional funds for the Endowment.  The Council take 5% of the funds each year to help with operating.   These funds are used for scholarship for registrations and camps for youth who cannot afford to pay for the entire program.  Some of these funds are also used to help train our leaders so that they may provide a quality program for our youth as well as maintain our camping facilities.  The Westmoreland Fayette Council believes that a strong endowment fund will enable us to provide quality programs for the next 100 years of Scouting in our counties, and we look forward to our continued partnership with the Community Foundation of Fayette County.
