Serving and Supporting Your Community

About the Community Foundation of Fayette County

The Concept of a "Community Foundation"
In 1914, Frederick Goff of Cleveland, Ohio introduced the concept of a "community foundation."  Part of his intent was to establish an agency where people of relatively modest means could engage in large-scale philanthropy by pooling their contributions.

The Community Foundation of Fayette County was founded in 1999 on the same traditional principles as Frederick Goff's original intent.  In partnership with donors, non-profit organizations, and the community, the CFFC improves the quality of life for all residents of Fayette County.

The CFFC is an important philanthropic vehicle in the County and builds "community capital" by professionally managing donated funds, linking donors with charities, providing support to non-profits, and addressing community concerns.

Mission Statement
The Community Foundation of Fayette County promotes philanthropy and community improvement by attracting, managing, and distributing charitable resources.

Why choose a Community Foundation for your charitable giving?
There are many reasons why it makes sense to make charitable donations to a community foundation, rather than donating directly to a charity.  Most importantly, you can make multiple designations through one gift, and guarantee stewardship of that gift.  You can make unrestricted contributions and have them directed to organizations with the most need.  And you can rest assured that your gift will keep on giving, even if your favorite charity goes out of business.  You will be creating a legacy in your family's name.
